How do you live your Dash

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on his tombstone from beginning to the end.

He noted that first came his date of birth and spoke the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time that he spent alive on earth and now only those who loved him know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own: the cars - the house - the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our "dash".

So think about this long and hard are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real, and always try to understand the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile remembering that this special dash only last a little while.

So when your eulogy's being read with your life actions to rehash would be proud of how you spent your "dash"?

work is lame

so works pretty much been sucking! i have to look for a 2nd job. poop! Oh well hopefully I can find something. If not it's ok i'll prob start working at the OG again as a hostess. It's simple and fun.

So check this today at work I got into this tiff with this chick casey over trays, yes trays. she's a loud mouth bitch and I wish I could hit her! Anywho so there were no trays to be found in the kitchen or dining wait. I saw cassey and stacy make quiet a few trips back to the kitchen to get beverages, but yet they never brought a single tray back from the bar (they cocktail so they work in the bar)so i simply say hey cassey when you come back in from the bar will you bring back a few trays? there arent any in here or in dining wait. So she looks at me and says what makes you think we have all the trays in the bar? Well i saw you and stacy come in here quiet a few times to get drinks and you never brought a tray back with you. SO she tells me why don't you go get them then? I said oh i'm kinda busy so if you guys would just bring them back the next time you come back here thad be good. So then I continue out of the kitchen to my table hand them their beverages and walk back to the kitchen and to my surprise guess who's there waiting for me? Yup, Stacy. She's there to bitch at me for blaming her for taking all the trays and not bringing them back. The most mature part about this is she's holding this huge stack of trays and throws them at the wall and says there I brought back the fucking trays. I simply look at her and say Stacy was that really necessary? So she proceeds with why the fuck did you tell casey I took all the trays and i'm not bringing them back. So i explained to her what I told Casey. She was still angered for some idiotic reason...I guess she's just mature and has a reason to angry over bringing back some trays she had in the bar? Oh goodness...the story continues....So Casey and Stacy keep making stupid remarks about bringing trays back and what not so finally Sandra says Casey are you really going to be this immature and fight about trays? Casey replys why yes I am...that girl is a bitch she could have walked her fat ass over to the bar and picked up those trays and brought them back over here. She just wanted to be a bitch. So Sandra says right Casey real mature and Katie butts in and says yeah Casey i'm sure Sara said hey can you please help me out by bringing soeme trays back when you get a chance in a real bitchy way right. So that was the end of story...I just felt like writing about it because i have nothing better to do with my time right now. Plus I just love looking back at the idiots i encounter on a daily basis....it makes my life grand!

oooo..some good news I stopped talking to Curtis. In time I want to be friends with him, but right now isn't a good time. I never got time to heal properly and jumping into a friendship straight off was not a good idea!

the politics of smurfing

Smurfs have been smurfing quite a stir since Belgian artist Peyo introduced them to the world on October 23, 1958. When Hanna-Barbera brought them to U.S. television sets in the early '80s, folks started accusing the sky-blue critters of being card-smurfing communists. They smurfed together in a commune-like setting, protecting themselves from Gargamel, a wretched capitalist who plotted to eat them or turn them into gold, depending on the episode. Some even believe that Karl Marx and Papa Smurf were separated at birth. (Nevermind that Papa's eternally 542 years old.) If the gossip wasn't about the Smurfs being commies, it was about their anti-feminist tendencies. Gargamel, after all, created the brunette Smurfette to wreak havoc on the village boys. Luckily, Papa smurfed a spell to pacify the lass. (Blonde locks and long lashes were just part of the makeover). The village smurfed over the blonde bombshell. And so did we. We couldn't get enough of Smurfette or the jolly Smurf dudes trying to impress her. We begged mom for Smurfberry Crunch, and us gals smurfed our hair obsessively to achieve our own Smurfette pompadour. Today, we suggest smurfing the politics in favor of singing: Happy Smurfday to you, enchanting village of blue.

How great is this??? I got a good Laugh out of it anyways...

For decades, two heroic statues, one male and one female, faced each other in a city park, until one day an angel came down from heaven.

"You've been such exemplary statues," he announced to them, "That I'm going to give you a special gift. I'm going to bring you both to life for thirty minutes, in which you can do anything you want." And with a clap of his hands, the angel brought the statues to life.

The two approached each other a bit shyly, but soon dashed for the bushes, from which shortly emerged a good deal of giggling, laughter, and shaking of branches. Fifteen minutes later, the two statues emerged from the bushes, wide grins on their faces.

"You still have fifteen more minutes," said the angel, winking at them.

Grinning even more widely the female statue turned to the male statue and said, "Great! Only this time you hold the pigeon down and I'll crap on it's head."

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The news from Indian River Lagoon was too familiar: another dolphin gravely injured because of human action. But marine scientist Steve McCulloch immediately saw this rescue was unique. The baby bottlenose dolphin lost her tail, but perhaps her life could be saved.

McCulloch, director of dolphin and whale research at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, decided to channel his anger into a solution.

The solution for the dolphin — dubbed Winter — may be a prosthetic tail. If the logistics can be worked out, Winter's prosthesis would be the first for a dolphin who lost its tail and the key joint that allows it to move in powerful up-and-down strokes.

"There's never been a dolphin like her," said Dana Zucker, chief operating officer of the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, which is now Winter's home.

A dolphin in Japan has a prosthesis, the first in the world, to replace a missing part of its tail.

Winter was a frail, dehydrated 3-month-old when she came to the animal rescue center in December. A fisherman found her tangled in the buoy line of a crab trap in Indian River Lagoon near Cape Canaveral. The line tightened around her tail as she tried to swim away, strangling the blood supply to her tail flukes.

"It looked like paper," Zucker said of Winter's tail. "Bit by bit over the weeks it just fell off."

Winter was left with a rounded stump.

A team of more than 150 volunteers and veterinarians spent months nursing Winter back to health. Zucker and her family cuddled with Winter and fed her a special mix of infant formula and pureed fish in the aquarium's rescue pool.

Winter learned how to swim without her tail, amazing her handlers with a combination of moves that resemble an alligator's undulations and a shark's side-to-side tail swipes. She uses her flippers, normally employed for steering and braking, to get moving.

Winter can't keep up with wild dolphins that can swim up to 25 mph with strokes of their tail flukes. She will be a permanent resident at the aquarium, even if she gets a prosthetic tail.

In the tank, she swims and plays with another dolphin, rolling and diving and surfacing to demand belly rubs and fish from her caretakers.

Zucker has formed a team to discuss the prospects of designing a tail for Winter. It has been consulting with a diving gear manufacturer, a tire company and the Navy, which has experience attaching items to dolphins for military research.

It's uncharted territory. Fuji, an elderly dolphin who lives at an aquarium in Okinawa, Japan, had part of his tail remaining on which to attach a prosthesis.

Winter doesn't. Both her tail flukes and peduncle, a wrist-like joint that allows a dolphin's tail to move up and down, were lost to necrosis. It is not clear how the prosthetic tail would be attached to her stump, but it would need to be tough.

"The dolphin's tail fin is the most powerful swimming mechanism Mother Nature ever designed," McCulloch said. "When you see how much pressure they put on their flukes, the prosthesis is going to take a marvel of modern engineering."

Veterinarians are unsure if a prosthesis will be beneficial or harmful in the long term. Swimming without a tail may ultimately wear on Winter's spine.

She would need at least three tails as she grows. She is now about 4 feet long and weighs 110 pounds. When she is full grown at age 15, Winter will be twice as long and four times as heavy.

The cost of the prosthetic tail is unknown.

"All I know is Fuji's tail cost $100,000 — and that was in 2004," McCulloch said.

That's equal to the entire monthly operating budget of the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Zucker said. The small animal hospital relies mostly on volunteer workers; its roof leaks in heavy rains.

"We're a mom and pop shop," Zucker said. "It's a labor of love."

She expects the design cost of the tail will be underwritten by the company that creates it. It's the cost of the long-term care of Winter — and the other injured animals in her care — that worry her.

Winter is a living reminder for humans to be careful about what they leave in the water.

"The kids get it right away. It's the adults, more creatures of habit, who take more persuasion," McCulloch said. "You can't outlaw fishing line, but you can educate a fisherman not to use careless techniques such as tossing out line."

at first this article made me super sad cuz I love dolphins, but i'm glad they are coming up with solutions to help those lil bugers!

i had some really good talks with lauren and pablo today about relationships and how they are such bs. i relazied that i don't want to deal with having a boy friend for a long while. everyone around me has someone and i see all the shit they go thru everyday. sometimes its good somedays its really bad. a lot of fun times have been ruined by friends and their lame fights. I don't know why people cant work it out between them. they always have to drag everyone else into it and ruin their fun. meh whatever...when someone good comes along maybe i'll take a chance on them, but as of right now i'm not looking for mr. right.

ecoli in sd waters

August 5, 2006

Residents in northeastern parts of San Diego should boil their tap water before drinking it or using it for food preparation because bacteria, including E. coli, were found in one water sample drawn from a residential site, Mayor Jerry Sanders and environmental health officials announced Saturday.
Area of water alert

E. coli indicates contamination by fecal matter. It can cause nausea, stomach cramps and diarrhea. Certain strains of it can be fatal for people with weak immune systems.

The boil-water notice affects the following communities: Rancho Peñasquitos, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Rancho Bernardo, Bernardo Heights, Bernardo Trails, Bernardo Oaks, Oaks North, Pomerado Park and the Lake Hodges area.

Restaurants and other businesses that serve food to the public in those communities have been asked to close until the boil order is lifted. The county's Department of Environmental Health is sending inspectors to issue notices to close.

Water safety
E. coli, a bacterium that can cause nausea, diarrhea and stomach cramps if ingested, was found in tap water tested from one site in Rancho Peñasquitos.

Residents in several communities in northern San Diego are urged to boil their drinking water for at least one minute or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water also should be used for preparing food until further notice.

Symptoms of illness start 24 to 72 hours after ingestion. Most cases clear up on their own in a few days.

The city has established a hotline to address community concerns: (619) 570-1070.

In the meantime, a new round of tests is being conducted, and results are set to be released at a 5 p.m. news conference Sunday.

The boil order came after tests of water from a residential spigot in Rancho Peñasquitos came back positive for E. coli. The tests were conducted because a water main ruptured Tuesday. It is possible that dirt with fecal matter got into the broken pipe and ended up in the water system.

“There is reason to believe this problem could be simply limited to this immediate neighborhood,” said Sanders, who held a news conference not far from the site of the water main break near Talca Avenue and Oviedo Street.

The order is a precautionary measure, officials said.

“This is a conservative approach to take all possible caution to protect public health,” said Brian Bernados, San Diego district engineer with the California Department of Health Services.

No illnesses had been reported as of Saturday night, said Tedi Jackson, a spokeswoman with the city Water Department.

Routine water testing was done in the wake of the water main break, which has been repaired, Jackson said. Test results Thursday were positive for total coliform bacteria but negative for E. coli.

The presence of coliform bacteria, which is common in the environment but not generally harmful, typically signals a problem with the treatment system or the pipes that distribute the water, Jackson said.
As a result, a second round of testing was done Friday. Yesterday's results were positive for coliform and E. coli.

Sanders made the boil-water order shortly after he learned of the results.

As news of water contamination spread, residents in affected areas flocked to grocery stores to buy bottled water. The manager of a Vons grocery store on Bernardo Plaza Drive said people were streaming in Saturday night to buy bottled water.

“Honestly, we will probably run out,” said the manager, who declined to give his name because of company policy.

Well we never met up with Debra to fill out the app and instead we ended up hanging out with friends. Kassandra told me today on the way back from SD that she doesn't want to move to Mira Mesa anymore, but North Park or Hillcrest instead. What do you guys think of North Park or Hillcrest? I've never really been there so I don't know? I'm really stressed out because I want to move by Sept 1st. I am in a lot of debt and I am taking my car back to the shop tomorrow to get the rest of the work done which puts me in more debt :( So I am also wondering if I should just stay here in Norco where I live rent free. It's a tough decision. Is happiness more then being in debt forever? WHo knows really. If we could find a place with a good deal I guess it would be worth it! Grr I hate money it's dirty!
